MSSAA National Honor Society Adopts SOWMA as Charity

The Massachusetts Secondary School Administrators Association (MSSAA) National Honor Society held its Spring Conference for National Honor Society students of Massachusetts and their advisors on April 6, 2016 at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA. Each year the National Honor Society selects a charity to be the recipient of fundraising efforts for their Adopt-A-Charity event. The NHS Committee has selected School on Wheels to be the beneficiary of this fundraising for the 2016-2017 school year.
School on Wheels of Massachusetts’ Education Director Jennifer Gold attended the event and spoke to students and advisors about the mission and outreach of School on Wheels. Students were encouraged to become actively involved in SOWMA by becoming tutors, by volunteering to build and arrange backpacks for students impacted by homelessness, or by organizing school supply donations. Matthew Fortino, SOWMA’s volunteer and supply coordinator, enjoys building partnerships with students and motivating them to get involved locally. “We strive to foster a community of growth and respect toward others, with the ultimate goal of furthering students’ life experience and education,” says Fortino.
MSSAA National Honor Society advertises the charity chosen for their annual “Adopt-a-Charity” to all member schools in Massachusetts and beyond. Students are awarded at the end of the school year based on their fundraising efforts and success. Donated supplies and funds raised by honor society students will be presented to SOWMA in the spring.
