Employees from Guardian Life Insurance, one of more than 130 Companies Caring for Kids, collected supplies and prepared backpacks last summer to distribute to local students impacted by homelessness.

You can help level the educational playing field by donating and/or customizing school supplies to ensure that all students in Massachusetts facing homelessness have what they need to succeed in school.

Beginning June 8, 2020, we will commence in-house volunteering at our headquarters in East Bridgewater.  We invite you to help customize backpacks for back to school this fall.  Please read our policy protocols as we work to ensure the safety of all who join us during this phase of re-opening.  You can see our guidelines HERE.

SOWMA'S BACKPACK AND TOOLS FOR SCHOOL PROGRAM

Typically, School on Wheels bustles with activity during the spring and summer as volunteers and groups come by appointment to our East Bridgewater headquarters to learn about family homelessness and customize grade-level backpacks for students of all ages.  Each volunteer
group plays a vital role in paying forward the gift of education by donating and preparing backpacks for more than 6,000 children and youth throughout the Commonwealth.

With the current pandemic and social/physical distancing rules in effect, our volunteer room has resumed under the careful guidelines noted above.  We are especially in need of donations to keep pace with what will surely be a growing need for our services this fall.  We ask that you  first contact our office to arrange a drop off or community service visit (This email address is being protected from spambots. You can write and send letters or notes of inspiration to be included with each backpack we send!  Children and teens love to receive notes from supporters and we'd love to include yours!  Consider having your own children or group contribute notes of inspiration. It's a great way to promote empathy and give hope to less fortunate students.  Notes can be targeted to any age group, from drawings from and to kindergarteners to letters of wisdom targeted to high school, college or trade school students.  Send to:  School on Wheels of Massachusetts, Inspirational Notes, 100 Laurel Street, Suite 121, E. Bridgewater, MA 02333.  Please include your name and contact information so that we may thank you accordingly.

BEGIN A SCHOOL ON WHEELS CLUB!

Kids Helping Kids!  Your children or teens can make a difference by forming a School on Wheels Club at their school or in their neighborhood or extracurricular group. SOWMA Clubs coordinate school supply drives and stage fundraisers to support the services we provide to less fortunate peers.  SOWMA Club leaders gain valuable leadership, philanthropic and team building skills.  When public health precautions warrant, SOWMA Club representatives gather at our headquarters to volunteer.  Contact us for more information on starting your very own SOWMA Club!  This email address is being protected from spambots.
