TUTORING

One hour a week is all it takes to help a child impacted by homelessness.
School on Wheels of Massachusetts recruits, trains and supports volunteers, who provide one-on-one tutoring for children (K - 12) at one of 18 tutoring sites.  Tutors meet with students for one hour, either once or twice weekly, to reinforce grade level learning skills, help with school projects and ultimately boost the child's academic and social confidence.

Volunteers come from all backgrounds and professions and help a child focus on school during times of uncertainty and disruption.

Site Coordinators are trained educators who oversee and support tutors and students at each program site.  The Site Coordinators ensure you have the information and resources you need to have an effective tutoring session.

Due to social distancing and for the safety of SOWMA students, staff and volunteers, tutoring will be conducted virtually beginning with the fall, 2020 semester.  Volunteers will receive high quality training, academic resources and ongoing support from SOWMA's educational staff.  One-on-one tutoring begins in October, 2020; sign up and trainings start now.
