The 2016 Ride

Team SOWMA had a spectacular day under sunny blue skies as part of the 26th Annual Rodman Ride for Kids in Foxboro, MA on Saturday, September 24th.

We are so grateful to Team SOWMA and our volunteers who continue to make a difference for our kids!  The 50-mile bikers included our devoted Risk Strategies Team Members Michael Christian and Ed Marshall.  Also cycling 50 miles were Robin and Andrew Daniels and Sarik Goyal.  The 25-mile Risk Strategies SOWMA team included Zoe Hellwig, Carley and Shawn Berry and Valerie Marshall.  Special shoutout to Neal and Russell Opper and SOWMA board member Dennis Harkins, who rode 25 miles for the 9th consecutive year!  Virtual riders included Angela Geso, Robin Gilbert, Jennifer Knowlton-Randall, Kelly Miranda, Cheryl Opper, Sharon Beals and Lauren Hanson.

The Rodman Ride for Kids is an umbrella matching gift charity that raises funds for youth-focused social service organizations like SOWMA that support at-risk kids in Massachusetts. The Ride's mission is to have every child in our community live as we would want our own children to live. The Rodman Ride for Kids will top the funds we raise with a 5% match.

This year SOWMA's goal is to reach $210,000 for our kids and it's not too late to help! Help us reach our goal by donating to Team SOWMA by November 30th!

The 2014 Ride

Our School on Wheels Birthday Team had beautiful weather for the 24th Annual Rodman Ride for Kids on September 20th in Foxboro, MA. Volunteers and supporters came together under sunny skies to cheer on our riders who rode 25, 50 or 100 miles to help support kids impacted by homelessness in our community. A big shout out goes to our anchor sponsor, Evolution Sports Performance! Click here to view this year's Ride photos.

This year's Ride goal for School on Wheels of Massachusetts is $200,000. The Rodman Ride will top off that goal with a 6% match. With the Rodman match, the SOWMA team can raise $212,000 that will directly benefit our kids. This is an ambitious and challenging goal. Riders are asked to raise a minimum of $1,500 each to support our kids and their education.

The funds we raise through the Rodman Ride for Kids make our kids' success possible. Charities fundraise year-round, culminating with the Ride event, when 1,500 cyclists participate in a non-competitive cycling tour. The expenses associated with the Ride for Kids are less than 3% of the total revenue, and they are all underwritten.

The 2013 Ride

What a day for a bike ride! On Saturday, September 28, we had 19 team members ride a total of 750 miles to raise money and awareness for our students impacted by homelessness.

Our riders, sponsors and supporters helped us raise $111,326!

Ted Myles took off at 7am to ride 100 miles. (Ted also designed our cool team jerseys. Thanks Ted, the jerseys rocked this year.)

Terri Houston, Billy Podolski, Lori Prew, Diane Gangi, Jen Meyers, and Brittany Engle, Patty Bangs and Ashley Hanson from Evolution Sports, our anchor sponsor took off at 9am to ride 50 miles.

At 10:30am, Dennis Harkins, Coleman Clifford, Neal and Russell Opper, Mary Catherine Finn, Bruce Ring, David and Caroline Mudd, Jay Pike and Gladys McNamee rode 25 miles. This completed our team of 19 riders.

Cathy Adler also had a successful fundraising campaign as a virtual rider.

The weather was perfect, the barbecue was delicious, but the best part was watching all of our riders cross the finish line with a sense of excitement and pride.
Your support makes a difference for our kids!

The 2012 Ride

In September 2012, a total of 1,300 riders participated in the Rodman Ride for Kids with over 600 volunteers helping out on the day of the Ride. The School on Wheels of Massachusetts Ride goal was $90,000. We ended up raising $108,000, thanks to our riders and donors!

Hundreds of volunteers cheered the riders on along the course, water stops, and finish line to make sure riders were hydrated, nourished, and felt safe and supported during their ride. Don Rodman generously hosted a delicious barbecue afterwards for all riders and volunteers. The 2012 event raised $10.3 million, an increase of nearly 15% from the previous year for the 46 Ride for Kids benefiting agencies. School on Wheels of Massachusetts has been fortunate to be a part of the Rodman Ride for 6 years. It is our largest, most important fundraiser event of the year.
